Bittiliiga is a gaming platform for Finnish youths. It is completely free to use and is available nation-wide. It is provided by the non-profit organization Bittiliiga r.a. in association with a growing number of cities and municipalities, such as the city of Espoo, multiple Regional State Administrative Agencies, the Finnish Ministry of Culture and Education, the Finnish Church Council, The Finnish Esports Federation (SEUL), Verke, Kanuuna and Gigantti.
Bittiliiga was born out of necessity as COVID-19 closed down both schools and after-school activities. We began developing a safe online gaming environment for youths (13-29 yrs.) in collaboration with cities and municipalities in Central Finland.
Our goal was to ensure that every teen has social hobbies and that no one is left alone. At the same time our gaming platform ensured that the cities and municipalities could fulfill their obligation to provide youth services even when youth centers are physically closed.
We received our first funding from the Regional State Administrative Agencies for Eastern Finland and for Western and Inland Finland in July 2020 and we launched our beta-phase service in September 2020.
After 8 months we have grown to be one of the biggest eSports communities in Finland providing a safe gaming platform for teens in 140 cities and municipalities in Finland, and by the end of May 2021 the amount of cities and municipalities will increase to 200.
